12 Feb Mea Culpa
A couple of days ago I had an epiphany. Well, it was more of an obvious revelation, or rather, a final resignation to something that had been staring me in the face for a long time.
Though the writing had been on the wall for ages, when it happened, it was like a bolt from the blue (pun fully intended).
What happened was that I finally managed to admit that I’m pretty much to blame for this country’s political dichotomy.
I also admitted that I’m to blame for the stagnant, smelly and foul, two-party system that has held this country ransom for so long.
And as tempted as I was to keep saying ‘tort tal-Labour’, I finally gave in to the truth and admitted that in reality, I am the one to blame!
After complaining ad nausea about the lack of choice; after discontentedly trying to choose between what feels like the lesser of two evils; and after considering not voting at all, I finally saw the light.
I finally realised that I’ve always had an alternative, and lo and behold it’s called Alternattiva Demokratika.
Sadly, whilst always having had a choice, I had foolishly let the two big political parties dissuade me from ever considering it.
When I ‘revealed’ my intention to vote for AD on Facebook, for some odd reason Maltastar reported it.
This only helped consolidate my decision further, because I don’t quite understand why Maltastar would be so enthusiastic about me ‘ditching PN for AD’ (their words not mine)?
Do they want Labour to win, or do they just want The Nationalists to lose?
I’m up to my eye balls with the shenanigans of the two big parties, and I’m as convinced as I’ll ever be that power, or the allure of power, turns most people into the contrived hypocrites that the majority of our politicians turn out to be.
And I am under no illusion that someone could be immune to these side effects of power.
In fact, I’m pretty sure that even the people behind Alternattiva Demokratika could turn into the same self-appeasing, power-hungry creatures that we have representing us today, but until they’re far enough from the power button, I believe that the odds of them being honest and having the strength to fight for real issues, are in their favour.
In addition to all this, I still have to come across an AD policy that I totally disagree with, so yes, there you have it, I believe that whatever face our Government will have after the 9th of March, it will be a better Government with AD in parliament.
One last thing, please don’t bother with the ‘wasting your vote’ comments, because if I hear this argument once again I might just blow a gasket.
